May already – time flies when you’re having fun!

Sarah Scarbrough was certainly having fun at the British Middle Distance Championships last Saturday – 3rd place in W40.Well done Sarah!
Details of Saturday’s Training Activity are now to hand – Which way to go?
Making the right route choice is central to running a good orienteering race. Our next training activity is focussed on this question and we will take the opportunity to compare the timing of routes taking paths with using a compass to go direct. The training is aimed at beginners and rusty orienteers. There will also be some simple O courses for beginners. It will be on the lovely Farley Heath between Shere and Cranleigh. Saturday 4th May, 12.00-14.00 pm Farley Heath.
- Meet main car park (next to the Roman Temple), Hurtwood car park no.8, Farley Heath Road, GU5 9EW, what3words: printouts.sweeping.quintet.
- We will leave for our base at 12.05 pm prompt. The base will be at the Hurtwood car park number 15 what3words: bikers.rejoined.tribal which is about 500 m from the Roman Temple Car Park
- Bring some lunch and a drink. Make sure you have full leg covering.
- Please sign up ASAP via racesignup so we know how many maps to print. Free for members of GO and Mole Valley. £4 for non- members.
- Bring a silva compass if you have one. We have some spares to lend otherwise.

Ian Ditchfield is off to Finland as part of the GB team for the European Trail O Championships. The warm-up events take place this weekend and the championships themselves run from 8th to 12th May. Good luck Ian and the GB team!
