A series of app-based (MapRun) low-key evening orienteering events suitable for newcomers, improvers and more experienced orienteers – if you like our winter street-orienteering series you’ll enjoy this too!

Format: paper maps and timing via the MapRun app, following successful trial of using the app for the 2023 summer series. This is the same approach as the MV winter street-o series: either have a smartphone with you whilst you run, or load the MapRunG app onto a compatible Garmin watch. Details of how orienteering works with this app are here. Using this app makes it easier to run the event on the day.
Entries: Will be on racesignup.co.uk in due course. Small cost per event to cover map printing, permissions, BOF levy and a donation to the app developers.
Maps: The nonsuch event will use a normal orienteering map (excerpt on right with incomplete legend). Remaining events will use OpenOrienteeringMap similar to street-o.
Courses: Mixture of score courses (maximising number of controls in a fixed time limit) and simple linear courses (following controls in a prescribed order).
Series league: similar to winter series: best 3 out of 4 rank results determines series winner.
Meeting point and Après-O: Meeting points in a pub with nearby start.

British Orienteering 3rd Party insurance does not cover any non-member of a British Orienteering affiliated orienteering club at this event if that person has taken part in three or more British Orienteering registered events.
