Summer series results – event 3 (22 June) – The Nower, Dorking

“The Nower” was this week’s venue — a compact but punchy mix of open grassland and (mostly) runnable woodland on a steep-sided ridge on the edge of Dorking, with an intricate path network and pockets of technical contour and vegetation detail to keep the navigation honest. The event landed right at the start of a four-day heatwave, with temperatures in the high twenties — but a gentle breeze and the shade of the forest canopy kept things manageable, and there was plenty of cold water at the finish for competitors to cool off. Registration and the start were just across the road from the Falkland Arms (thanks to the Falkland Arms for hosting us).

The line course was a quiet one this week — just two out, Clare Peckitt and Tony Garton with Tony taking the win Results below:

With 31 controls split across four groups and a knockout bracket, there was a real mix of approaches on the night. Some went for glory, targeting all six controls in every group before chasing the knockouts; others played it safer, banking the five needed to unlock each quarter-final and progressing through from there. Only one competitor cleared the board completely — every single control — and they only just spilled outside the 60-minute cut-off. That was the winner, Tom Davies, who swept up all 430 points bar a 2-second overtime penalty, taking the win on 429 in 1:00:02. He pipped Tim Scarbrough, who ran a clean 55:10 for 400 points, with Ian Roberts completing the podium on 368. Well done all. Full results for the event below.
