MV/GO Training Event at Headley Heath
Sunday, 11 January @ 12:00 - 14:00
This is one of our approximately monthly series of friendly, informal training events aimed at newcomers and existing orienteers who wish to improve their skills. These sessions are run jointly by Mole-Valley and Guildford Orienteering Clubs and are free to members of these clubs. A £4 fee applies for non-members.
This time there are two courses for newcomers, a short course (2km) and a longer one (5-6km). There will be volunteers available to join you and help you around the course.
For improvers we have:
- meet the features: a course aimed at those who are more used to the streets than the forest to introduce you to the plethora of features that those cheeky planners can put the kites on.
- keeping track: A very high density of controls and lots of changes of direction to encourage you to thumb the map, use distance judgement and keep track of what control you are going to.
- Follow the line: Can you stay on the right paths and count the controls you see on the way (optional even harder version with only some of the map available to you).
Please make sure that you come wearing shoes suitable for running off-road, full leg cover (NOT SHORTS!) and a compass and ‘dibber’ if you have them – they will be available to borrow if required.
Bring your own lunch and plenty to drink.
Meet in the open area just west of the main car park, Headley Heath, Headley Common Rd, Headley, Epsom KT18 6NN. W3W: smart.tags.jungle
This is a National Trust Car park so there will be parking fees for non-members of the National Trust.
