SUMMARY:MV Summer Series evening at Claremont Fan Court School
DESCRIPTION:1st event in our 6-part summer series (subsequent event Mon 15 June\, Epsom). App-based (MapRun) low-key evening orienteering event suitable for newcomers\, improvers and more experienced orienteers.\nSummary – read if nothing else: \n\nDirections: must enter from Portsmouth Road (see google map). Once parked\, follow signs for  the Joyce Grenfell Centre (JGC) which is where the assembly is (dining hall)\nArrival time: not onto school premises before 6pm please\nEvent solely run on MapRun app (not using dibbers) – download app and course before arrival due to poor signal on site.\nRead the safety notes below. In case of allergies\, warning beehives are on site\nSite fairly wet underfoot; road shoes perhaps not wise on the grass – something with some grip may be preferred.\n\nEntry: Racesignup.co.uk. Free for MV members. For non-MV members: £3.50 seniors (£5.50 if not British Orienteering members)\, £2 juniors (£3 if not BOF members) [‘juniors’ are under 21] \nMeeting point: Assembly in dining hall of Claremont Fan Court School\, Claremont Drive\, Esher\, KT10 9LY (https://what3words.com/prove.upon.tells). Tapes will mark the way from the car park to the bag drop in the dining hall or follow signs for the Joyce Grenfell Centre (JGC). Start is from just outside here. \nGetting there: Parking available on site\, accessed from Portsmouth Road – see google map / what3words at the entrance from Portsmouth Road is https://what3words.com/loudly.smug.salt. There are two entrances to the school but you will only be able to enter via the Portsmouth Road entrance. Arrival not before 6pm please. Speed limit of 10mph on this driveway into the school please – you may encounter competitors. If coming by train\, closest stations are Claygate\, Esher\, and Hinchley Wood\, all are a warm-up jog away. \nCourses: \n\nFor beginners/newcomers: a simple (“yellow” / “orange” standard) 2.4km linear course. “Linear” means you must go to the controls in the order specified on the course map.\nFor the experienced or adventurous: 1-hour score\, format 30s/40s/50s see below. “Score” means there is no set course. Your map will show several controls\, you choose which and how many to visit. You get points for each control you do visit and lose points if you take more than an hour (penalty rate 1 point per 2 seconds: don’t be late!).\n\nThere will be three ‘sets’ of controls\, numbered in the 30s\, 40s and 50s. Competitors can do the sets in whichever order they want (they can do 30s then 50s then 40s etc.) and they can also swap over to another set whenever they want\, but once a competitor has swapped to another set they cannot swap back to the previous set. You do not have to complete a set before moving on to the next set; you may want to change sets before completion to maximise points. All controls are worth 20 points. \nExample: A competitor decides to start with the 40s and runs to 47\, 42\, 45\, 41. They then decide to switch to the 30s and run to 39\, 38 etc. And then later the 50s. Once they have started on the 30s they will not get any points for reaching further 40s\, as they have moved on from this set. The same applies to the 30s when they start the 50s. \nNote: If you do happen to run past a control in the wrong ‘set’ and MapRun registers this we can amend this in the results afterwards\, so if you are intent on doing as many 50s as possible for example and you register one of the 30s\, this will not affect you continuing on the 50s\, but you will not get any points for the 30s control you visit (unless you visit it later as part of a 30s round). In general we will assume that if you do multiple controls from a set in order that you have started on this set. \nStarts: from 18:30 to 19:30. Courses close 20:40. \nFormat: exclusively on the MapRun app – the app ‘beeps’ when you visit a control site. No physical controls located in the park and dibbers will not be used. This means using a smartphone with the MapRun app (latest is version 7)\, or load the MapRunG app onto a compatible Garmin watch. Details of how orienteering works with this app are here. Please download the course to the app before you arrive\, because there is very little signal at Claremont: click on ‘Select Event’\, and follow the menu path UK > Mole Valley > 2026 Summer Series. The course will not be visible on your phone until you receive the PIN number at the start. You upload your result when you finish. The full procedure will be explained at Registration. \nMap: A4 1:3\,500 scale waterproof orienteering map (surveyed 2013\, updated 2018\, 2022\, 2026). Example (blank) map at registration. We can explain map colours and symbols to newcomers. No separate control descriptions – they are printed on the map. \nTerrain: Mostly parkland with an area of school buildings\, and dispersed areas of dense vegetation. Due to the frequent management of the grounds for sport\, the map will not show certain features such as athletics track\, pitches and disk frisbee course. \nClothing: shorts permitted\, may encounter some longer vegetation but this is avoidable. Recommend tick check post-run. \nInfo about road crossings: Route is entirely contained within school groups so no road crossings. Care should be taken around the long driveway from Portsmouth road to parking as this will probably be crossed multiple times and you may encounter other competitors arriving/leaving. Speed limit of 10mph on this road please. \nResults: provisional live on the MapRun app and final on mvoc.org soon after the event. Rank on the score class contributes to summer series league points. \nWater: water fountains available near start/finish for hydration \nSeries information: Best 4 of 6 (or 7\, tbc!) events counts towards your total league score. Top male and female competitors get a trophy at the end of the series! \nEvent official: Organised and planned by Alex Kendall\, alexkendall72@gmail.com. \nSafety notes based on the event risk assessment: \n\nThere are no road crossings but you may cross the driveway into the school from Portsmouth Road. Please look out for vehicles when doing so (conversely\, when you’re driving in\, please watch out for competitors crossing!). The speed limit is 10mph. The linear course should only cross this driveway at the painted zebra crossing (and the course is planned to take you to this crossing).\nAt the southern end of the map there is a cluster of bee-hives. These are marked as out-of-bounds on the map. Competitors with bee/insect sting allergies should make sure they have their Adrenaline Auto-Injector (AAI) with them on their run. The linear course does not go near this area but the Score course competitors might.\nAs a working school\, there is considerable sporting and maintenance equipment which will not be on the map e.g. archery targets\, cricket wicket covers. Please be vigilant for these items as potential trip/collision hazards.\nNorth from the mansion there is a ha-ha which is marked on the map\, but which is nearly invisible from up-slope due to the grass. Please take care not to fall off it!\nThere is some vegetation on the courses but all controls are accessible by paths or across low-cut grass. Shorts are acceptable but as there are deer in the area please make sure you check for ticks after your run.\nYou will encounter trip hazards on all courses\, including woodland paths/trails\, such as tree roots and uneven ground\, as well as steps and uneven footpaths; please take care.\nThe weather may be very warm. Please arrive fully hydrated. We recommend you carry water with you. Water available at the start / assembly.\nPonds shall not be entered;\nSafety bearing: look up to the Mansion house and navigate to that.\nAll competitors must report back to the MV team at the Dining room\, even if you wish to retire\, so that everyone is accounted for. If injury prevents you from returning to Registration\, please phone the emergency number printed on the map by 8.30pm\, to avoid the need for a search party and to enable help to be provided if necessary.\n\nNearest Hospital: Epsom Hospital\, Dorking Road\, Epsom\, KT18 7EG. \nYou are responsible for your own safety and you take part in this event at your own risk. A quick reminder for newcomers: If you’re not currently a member of British Orienteering\, you won’t be covered by the organisation’s public liability insurance for this event. For example\, if you were to accidentally injure a member of the public or damage property during the event\, you would not be covered. You’re very welcome to take part\, but please be aware that you do so at your own risk.

App-based (MapRun) low-key evening orienteering event suitable for newcomers\, improvers and more experienced orienteers.\nFinal details are now available here… https://mvoc.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/The-Nower-World-Cup-2026-—-Final-Details-20260616.pdf\nPlease note that it is forecast to be 28degC at 18:00 tomorrow. For non-MV members: £3.50 seniors (£5.50 if not British Orienteering members)\, £2 juniors (£3 if not BOF members) \nMeeting point and Après-O: Registration at The Falkland Arms\, 60 Falkland Rd\, Dorking RH4 3AD – map. You will be able to leave your bags during your run. We encourage you to make use of the pub’s food and refreshments for a social after\, as they are providing us space for free. \nGetting there: The pub is ~30-minute walk from Dorking Main/Deepdene railway stations. Parking on nearby streets. \nCourses: \n\nFor beginners/newcomers: a simple (“yellow” standard) ~2.2km linear course\, with 10 controls. No road crossings\, so suitable for juniors.\nFor the experienced or adventurous: 1-hour score with a World Cup 2026 theme. “Score” means there is no set course — your map will show around 30 controls\, you choose which and how many to visit\, and you lose points if you take more than an hour. This event uses a custom progressive scoring system that mirrors the real World Cup bracket. Controls are organised into a group stage and knockout rounds (quarter-finals\, semi-finals and a Final). Knockout controls are worth more points\, but only score if you have qualified for them by visiting enough controls from the relevant group — so route choice is about more than just distance.Full scoring rules\, points values and qualification thresholds will be published in the final details before the event.\n\nStarts: from 18:30 to 19:30. Courses close 20:40. Start across the road from the pub. You will download the course to the app ideally before you arrive: click on ‘Select Event’\, and follow the menu path UK > Mole Valley > 2026 Summer Series. The course will not be visible on your phone until you receive the PIN number at the start. You upload your result when you finish. The full procedure will be explained at Registration. \nMap: A4 1:5\,000 scale waterproof orienteering map\, map updated 2026 by Ian Roberts. Example (blank) map at registration. We can explain map colours and symbols to newcomers. No separate control descriptions – they are printed on the map. \nTerrain: The Nower offers a compact mix of fast open grassland and runnable woodland on a steep-sided ridge\, with an intricate path network and pockets of more technical contour and vegetation detail to keep you honest. \nResults: provisional live on the app and final on mvoc.org soon after the event. Rank on the score class contributes to summer series league points. \nSeries information: Best 4 of 6 events counts towards your total score. \nEvent official: Organised and planned by Dan Sullivan\, dansullivan2001@gmail.com. \nSafety notes based on the event risk assessment: \n\nThe Yellow Linear course does not cross any road. The Score courses require crossing a small lane passing through the map area — please stop\, look both ways\, and cross with care.\nThe terrain is hilly and wooded throughout. All courses include uneven ground\, woodland paths\, tree roots and steep slopes; please take care\, especially on descents.\nThe area is woodland and heathland and ticks are present. Please check yourself for ticks after your run. If you develop a bull’s-eye rash or flu-like symptoms in the days following the event\, seek medical advice.\nThere is vegetation on parts of the courses including bracken and rough undergrowth. Scratches and stings are possible. Long socks are recommended.\nThe area is used by walkers\, dog walkers and horse riders. Please be considerate to other users\, especially when passing from behind on narrow paths.\nThe weather will be hot. Please arrive well hydrated; we recommend you carry water with you. Re-hydrate at the pub.\nSafety bearing: if you become disorientated\, head East until you reach the open grass area where a member of the team will be stationed at the Start/Finish.\nAll competitors must report back to Download in the pub\, even if you wish to retire\, so that everyone is accounted for. If injury prevents you from returning\, please phone the emergency number printed on your map before the course closing time\, to avoid the need for a search party and to enable help to be provided if necessary.\n\nNearest Hospitals: Epsom Hospital\, Dorking Road\, Epsom\, KT18 7EG and East Surrey Hospital\, Canada Avenue\, Redhill\, RH1 5RH

SUMMARY:MV Summer Series evening at Horton Country Park
DESCRIPTION:5th event in our 7-part summer series (subsequent event Wed 15 July\, Oaks Park). App-based (MapRun) low-key evening orienteering event suitable for newcomers\, improvers and more experienced orienteers.\nEntry: Racesignup.co.uk. Free for MV members. For non-MV members: £3.50 seniors (£5.50 if not British Orienteering members)\, £2 juniors (£3 if not BOF members) \nMeeting point and Après-O: Assembly in the beer garden of The William Bourne pub\, Moor Lane\, Chessington\, KT9 2BQ – map. You will be able to leave your bags during your run. We encourage you to make use of the pub’s food and refreshments for a social after\, as they are providing us space for free. \nGetting there: The pub is ~10-minute walk from Chessington North railway station. The pub has a small (20-25 space) car park or use nearby on-street parking e.g. on Chessington Hill Park. \nNewcomers: we recommend watching this 5 minute video on youtube to introduce the sport and the map. At the event\, we will be happy to provide further introduction and instruction. \nCourses: \nFor all U16s\, parents/guardians need to accompany children across the road from the pub to the course start on the opposite side of the road.  \n\nFor beginners/newcomers: a simple (approximately “yellow” standard) ~3km linear course\, with 12 controls. The route is mostly in Horton Country Park. For U16s: we recommend shadowing on the course for the three/four (depending on route taken) minor road crossings.\nFor the experienced or adventurous: 1-hour score\, odds and evens format. U16s permitted\, but see safety notes.\n\n“Score” means there is no set course. Your map will show several controls\, you choose which and how many to visit. You get points for each control you do visit and lose points if you take more than an hour. Points per control is the control number rounded down to the nearest multiple of 10. E.g. control “33” will score 30 points\, and control “29” will score 20 points.\n“Odds and evens” means you start with either odd-numbered or even numbered controls and may switch once to the other. You don’t need to visit all even-numbered controls or all odd-numbered controls and could just visit one block of controls.\n\nThe first block is determined by whether two odd-numbered or two even-numbered controls are visited before two of the other (or stated another way\, of the first three non-duplicated controls visited\, two are even or two are odd).\nThe flip to the second block is signalled by visiting two controls in the second block in succession\, i.e. two odd-numbered controls after an initial block of even-numbered controls or vice versa. (There is no “switch” control if you have previously run “odds and evens” event with a switch control.)\nControls of the wrong parity in a block (i.e. odds visited in an even block and vice versa) do not count towards the points score but can be visited in the correct block for points. These controls are listed as “Extras” in the results table.\n\n\nPenalty if over 60 minutes: 30 points per minute or part minute.\n\n\n\nStarts: from 18:30 to 19:30. Courses close 20:40. Start across the road from the pub. \nFormat: This event will exclusively use the maprun app to record participation – i.e. you will go around the course with either a phone with the maprun app\, or if you have a garmin-compatible watch\, using the Garmin watch maprun app. The app ‘beeps’ when you visit a control site. No physical controls; dibbers will not be used. \nIf you have not used maprun before\, we recommend watching this 2 minute video on youtube first. To download the phone app\, choose android phones or apple phones. \nIf you want to use MapRun on a compatible Garmin watch – to avoid taking your phone around with you – please ensure you still have MapRun installed on your phone. This will enable you to start without the PIN. Instructions for the garmin watch app are here \nPlease download the app before arriving and ideally the course too. To download the course in the app: click on ‘Select Event’\, select the third icon along the top (folder) and follow the folder path UK > Mole Valley > 2026 Summer Series. The course will not be visible on your phone until you receive the PIN number at the start. You upload your result when you finish. The full procedure can be explained at Assembly/the start. \nMap: A4 1:10\,000 scale waterproof orienteering map. Example (blank) map at registration. We can explain map colours and symbols to newcomers. No separate control descriptions – they are printed on the map. \nTerrain: Parkland with extensive path network and some urban sections of Clarenden Park. The courses have been designed to avoid the need for full leg cover as the courses are path-based. It is possible on the score course that you may choose (but don’t have to!) to go through long grass. \nResults: provisional live on the app and final on mvoc.org soon after the event. Rank on the score class contributes to summer series league points. \nSeries information: Best 4 of 7 events counts towards your total score. \nEvent official: Organised and planned by Ben Toogood benjamintoogood@gmail.com. \nSafety notes based on the event risk assessment: \n\nThe weather is forecast to be very hot (7pm 31 deg C\, wet bulb globe temperature 27 deg C after accounting for humidity). Please arrive fully hydrated. We strongly recommend you carry water during the event. Water available in the pub. The course is estimated to be ~50% shaded on woodland trails.\nYou may wish to consider beginning your run later in the start window (until 7.30pm) when it will be slightly cooler but be advised the course will still close at 8.40pm and if you are not back at the pub you must call the emergency number on the map.\nManage your effort – this is a fun summer series. It is not worth pushing yourself to the limit.\nIt is mandatory to carry a mobile phone (and alert the organiser if the phone is different to the number provided at entry). If you feel unwell from heat or any other cause whilst on the course telephone the organiser before making your way back to the start.\nIf you think it will be inappropriate for you to run in these conditions you can withdraw your entry and gain a credit for a future event – this is self-service online at racesignup.co.uk until 7pm on the day of the event.\nThe start is the other side of Moor Lane from the pub. Do not rush! Please await a safe time to cross Moor Lane\, or cross at the traffic lights 160 metres west up the hill. Parents/guardians to accompany under 16s.\nAll courses cross minor roads: watch out for traffic and take care crossing these roads. For parents/guardians of under 16s: these minor roads do not have significant traffic\, have good visibility\, and any traffic has been observed at low speeds. We recommend all U16s are shadowed by their parent/guardian.\nYou will encounter trip hazards on all courses\, including woodland paths/trails\, such as tree roots and uneven ground\, kerbs; please take care. On the score course\, there are knee height wooden rails around the residential areas on the Horton estate. Some of these are loose so take care stepping / jumping over (not on!) these.\nThe paths/trails under tree canopy may become darker towards the end of the event\, so extra care should be taken in such circumstances. Sunset is at 21:16 whereas courses close at 20:40.\nLinear course is suitable for shorts. Score course is also suitable for shorts however you may choose routes with longer vegetation\, with medium risk of nettle sting / bramble scratch – consider full leg cover to avoid this.\nYou may encounter litter which could include unsafe objects\, please take care.\nPonds shall not be entered; they could be sticky mud this time of year.\nPlease check for and remove ticks after your run particularly if you wore shorts.\nThe event area is shared with cyclists\, dog walkers and horse riders. Please give them a wide berth and slow down\, and alert in advance if approaching from behind.\nThe emergency phone number is printed on your map should you require assistance. If you are not carrying a mobile\, shout or use a whistle to summon help.\nThe event includes a public park; there are stranger danger risks. We recommend all children are shadowed by their parent/guardian.\nPlease confidentially disclose existing medical conditions that the organiser should be aware of to the registration team.\nSafety bearing: North back to Chessington Road / Moor Lane. Look up: the pub is located on Moor Lane underneath large electricity pylon/cables.\nAll competitors must report back to the MV team at the pub\, even if you wish to retire\, so that everyone is accounted for.

These controls are listed as “Extras” in the results table.\n\n\nPenalty if over 60 minutes: 30 points per minute or part minute.\n\n\n\nStarts: from 18:00 to 19:30. Courses close 20:40. Start on the parkland adjacent to cafe. \nMap: A4 1:4\,000 scale waterproof orienteering map. Example (blank) map at registration. We can explain map colours and symbols to newcomers. No separate control descriptions – they are printed on the map. \nTerrain: Partially wooded parkland with extensive path network. You may encounter long grass / nettles near some controls – leg cover advised. Sunset is at 21:00\, so a head torch should not be necessary. \nResults: provisional live on the app and final on mvoc.org soon after the event. Rank on the score class contributes to summer series league points. \nSeries information: Best 4 of 7 events on score courses counts towards your total score. \nEvent official: Organised and planned by Steven Carle. \nSafety notes based on the event risk assessment: \n\nWhen making your way from registration to the Start Location\, please be vigilant of traffic that may be using the car park. Please ensure children are always accompanied by a parent.\nYou may encounter trip hazards on woodland paths/trails\, such as tree roots and uneven ground\, and care should be taken when running on this terrain.\nThe paths/trails under tree canopy may become darker towards the end of the event\, so extra care should be taken in such circumstances.\nConsider the surface on which you are running. The open ground (marked in orange on the map) provides easy running\, but may still have uneven patches\, which may also be masked by long grasses\, so run within your limits.\nThere may be parts of the course containing long vegetation\, with a risk of nettle sting or bramble scratch\, so full leg cover is recommended.\nWhen running\, consider other park users you may come across and give them a wide berth\, particularly when approaching from behind. Dog walkers frequent the park so avoid catching dogs by surprise by calling out to the dog walkers in advance. And consider a slower pace when approaching bends or running past corners of outbuildings to help minimise the risk of collision.\nThe emergency phone number is at the bottom of the control sheet should you require assistance. If you are not carrying a mobile\, use your whistle to summon help.\nThe weather may be very warm\, so please consider your own ability\, dress\nappropriately\, and ensure you are hydrated before and after your run. We\nrecommend you carry some water with you.\nIf you become disorientated or lost\, bear East until you reach a main road. If that main road runs North to South\, you will have reached the road on the right(east) of the map. If you come across a road that runs East to West\, you will have reached the road at the foot (south) of the map. Follow these roads to return to Registration.\nAll competitors must report back to Registration\, even if you wish to retire\, so that everyone is accounted for. If injury prevents you from returning to Registration\, please phone the organiser at the earliest opportunity\, using the number on the bottom of the control sheet\, to avoid the necessity for a search party and to enable help to be provided if necessary.\n\nNearest Hospital: St Helier Hospital\, Wrythe Ln\, Sutton\, Carshalton SM5 1AA.

Players may only spend a limited time underwater before they must surface for more air\, or risk losing their fish. Full rules and tutorials will be provided in advance and a briefing provided on the night. There is a short/kids (40 minute) and a long/adults (75 minute) course available.  If you choose to do the short course\, your points still count towards the league: points scores will be scaled up to match the long course. \nStarts: from 18:30 to 19:30. Courses close 20:45. Start from the pub. \nFormat: this event will exclusively use the MindGames app\, you will therefore need a phone\, with connectivity\, to take part. The only required road crossing is directly outside the start finish\, this is a minor road but care should be taken. Either side of this road is a drainage ditch\, that can be navigated around or crossed with care.\n\n\nYou may encounter long vegetation on the course but all controls are accessible by paths or across low-cut grass. Shorts are acceptable.\n\n\nThe paths/trails under tree canopy may become darker towards the end of the event\, so extra care should be taken in such circumstances. Sunset is at 21.00 whereas courses close at 20:45.\n\n\nYou will encounter trip hazards \, including woodland paths/trails\, such as tree roots and uneven ground\, as well as steps and uneven footpaths; please take care.\n\n\nThere are several fallen trees \, both at ankle/knee height and also at shoulder/head height\, runners should be mindful of their surroundings\, particularly when not running on major paths.\n\n\nThe weather is forecast ~26 degrees. Please arrive fully hydrated and wear suitable clothing. Consider carrying water with you. Water is available at the Start/Finish.\n\n\nSafety bearing : North to Christ Church Road then east to Stamford Green where the pub is.\n\n\nAll competitors must report back to the MV team at the finish (even if you wish to retire\, so that everyone is accounted for. SUMMARY:MV urban at Reigate
DESCRIPTION:FINAL DETAILS \nEntry: Racesignup.co.uk. Seniors £10\, Juniors (u21) / students £4 by 23 August. Seniors £12\, Juniors £6 by 28 August and entry on day (subject to map availability\, payment by card only). £2 surcharge for non-BOF Seniors. SI-Card hire £1 (lost units £30) or contactless SIAC hire £2.50 (lost units £65). \nDirections (all): The start and finish are in Reigate Priory Park. Please proceed directly to the start if you are pre-entered\, via the recommended routes shown below for either coming by public transport or by driving. There will be a bag/key drop at Enquiries. If you need to enter on the day or collect a hired dibber\, please proceed to enquiries/download according to the mapped route. \nDirections by car: Please use the Bancroft Road multi-storey car park (post code RH2 0AN or what3words ///cubes.clever.forgot or google maps). The car park has a height restriction at its entrance from the A217 of 2.0m and is free on Sundays. Please follow the below walking route (~700m\, approx. 7mins) to Priory Park\, which goes via the public toilets (also toilets at the Café close to the start). Then see o-map on next page for where the start is in Priory Park. \n \nFor the use of customers of Morrisons\, there are toilets in Morrisons. Its car park (free for customers) has an enforced (£100? penalty) maximum stay of 2 hours – see notices. \nBell Street car park is not recommended because: the route to the start from there goes through the competition area; it does not have enough spaces to accommodate all competitors; and it is prioritised for helpers. However\, should you prefer to use this car park e.g. due to vehicles above 2.0m height\, please walk north from the car park along the A217 (Bell Street) to join the marked pedestrian route above. \n \nDirections via public transport: The nearest railway station is Reigate station (1km)\, direct services from London Victoria\, Guildford\, Reading\, Gatwick. There are currently no strikes\, or known engineering works\, planned for the date of the event. The 1km walk to the start is approximately 10-15 minutes (see route shown on map to the right): turn left out of the station heading south on London Road (A217)\, use the crossing to continue southwest along London Road (A25) against the flow of one-way traffic\, cross straight over at the junction with the High Street on to Park Lane\, bearing left after 50m to take the road into Priory Park. Then follow o-map below. \nCompetitors arriving by rail may wish to make use of the station toilets as there aren’t other toilets en route. \nHow to get to the start and enquiries/download within Reigate Priory Park\nPlease follow the routes shown on the map below to get to the start. \n \nEvent centre: Reigate Priory Park\, using MV club tent\, close to the Park Café (GPS 51.2348\,-0.2078; W3W feast.jobs.pardon)\, with toilets\, water (tap)\, registration and download. Start\, Finish\, childrens’ playground (free) and probably a mobile fairground with bouncy inflatables (charged) all adjacent. Skateboard park (free) 150m. \nExtra toilets: If on the way to the event\, you could use the public toilets on the NW side of the Bell Street/Bancroft Road junction (GPS 51.23681\,-0.2055; W3W rounds.firms.next)\, this would ease the pressure on the park cafe toilets. \nMap and terrain: Map by Mike Elliot (MV) surveyed 2023\, updated and extended by Ian Roberts in 2026\, overprinted with the courses and printed on waterproof paper. Drawn with OCAD2020 to ISSprOM2019-2. Scale 1:4\,000 with 5 metre contours\, 150 metres between magnetic north lines(course 5 is at 1:3\,000). \nPavement edges are only shown for major streets and significant paved areas\, where they serve a navigational purpose – for clarity the small pavements on most roads are not shown. Busier major roads (e.g. centre of Reigate) have been mapped using a darker shade of brown than other streets to aid your decisions of route choices. See example on the right showing the high street in this darker shade. There are some stretches of busier roads that do not have pavements on both sides; it is not advised that you run on the road but cross on to the pavement side. \n \nReigate has a pedestrian tunnel by the castle. This map snippet shows a north-south tunnel with 2 entrances (the black triangles) plus the east-west path over the top with 4 small towers and a set of uncrossable walls. Most courses visit this site\, some even have a control nearby. \n  \nThe map\, as printed\, does not have a full legend with only impassable/out-of-bounds features listed (per snippet). A full ISSprOM 2019-2 legend is at maprunner.co.uk/map-symbols/ Crossing impassable / out-of-bounds results in disqualification. Incursion on private land (olive green) can lead to complaints to you/us\, so please avoid. You must not cross such features even if this appears to be physically possible. Our sport’s reputation and future use of the area depends on your respect for the rules\, your conduct\, and your courtesy to others. \nSpecial features: a black cross on the map and the control descriptions is a bench seat; a green cross on the map is a rootstock. \nThe 2023 map of Reigate used for the 2023 race is at https://www.mvoc.routegadget.co.uk/rg2/#90/. Courses will be on grass/tracks in Priory Park as well as paths. The majority of the rest of the courses are on hard standing of tarmac road and pavements. Course 7 uses traffic free areas within Priory Park (see safety notes below). Please avoid crossing temporary sports pitches that are in active use in Priory Park (mapped). Two overprinted out of bounds areas within Priory Park are small temporary funfairs in the park. Course 6 leaves the Priory Park along a little used access road to the High Street and then goes along the High Street to a light-controlled pedestrian crossing. This crossing has a control at both sides and will be manned. The time between these 2 controls will be excluded and competitors must only cross when instructed by the marshals. This crossing is used in 2 directions(out-bound and later in-bound). \nCourses: This event scores in the Southern England Orienteering Urban League (SEOUL)\n\nAdults who are not bothered about SEOUL points may run any course. U16’s may only run courses 6 or 7. U12’s may only run course 7.\n\n\n\n\n	Course"Purple line" lengthOptimum lengthClimbControlsPrint scalePaper sizeSEOUL classes\n\n\n\n\n	17.5km11.1km120m291:4\,000A3\, double-sidedMen's Open\n\n\n	26.2km9.3km115m251:4\,000A3\, double-sidedWomen's Open. Competitors under 16 are not allowed to compete on courses 1 to 5 unless accompanied by an adult. Adults who are shadowing: to remain competitive complete your own run first. \nSafety briefing: \n\nCompetitors are reminded that they take part at their own risk and are responsible at all times for their own safety.\nAll runners will encounter uneven surfaces – please take care.\nThe competition takes place in a public urban area with numerous road crossings and in busy areas with members of the public. Please take care when running and look out for moving traffic\, bicycles\, members of the public. Pedestrian crossings in busy areas are marked as optional crossing points. Brightly coloured clothing is recommended to mitigate the risk of collisions. Please take particular care running around unsighted corners and along narrow paths.\nParticularly within Priory Park\, you may encounter dogs being walked.\nWithin Priory Park there is a lake (deep water). Course 7 (i.e. the junior course) goes near/alongside this lake on paths. Parents\, please remind your children to take particular care here.\nPlease avoid running through the skate park in Priory Park.\nParticularly for junior competitors\, there is as ever the risk of stranger danger. Please remind your juniors to exercise vigilance. There are no sad/smiley faces on course 7.\nWeather-related risks: running surfaces may be slippery in case of rain; there is a risk of dehydration– please hydrate before and after your run. We will not provide water unless it is forecast to be very hot (these details will be updated in this case)\,however\, see under refreshments about the mid-course “water-drop”.\nCourses 1 and 2 cross the railway. The map does not overprint optional crossing points. The level crossing\, when closed\, can be avoided using either the adjacent footbridge or the pedestrian subway to the East (with no need to pass through the ticket barriers).\nYou must download\, even if you abandon your race.\nPlease make us aware at the enquiries tent of existing relevant medical conditions and unexpected reactions/allergies that we should be aware of before running.\nSafety bearing back to Priory Park varies depending on where you are in the course.\nThere is a specific risk of litter\, potential for broken glass and used needles as advised by the school granted land access permission. This is relevant for courses 1\, 2\, 3\, 4 and 5. Whilst we will be doing a specific check for this on the morning of the event\, please remain vigilant for this risk.\nThere will be a First Aid kit at Enquiries/Download. This will operate on a “self-help” basis\, although there will be a club First-Aider available.\nThe nearest A&E hospital is East Surrey Hospital\, Canada Avenue\, Redhill\, RH1 5RH (~10 minute drive\, 2.5 miles)\nCovid: Please follow the British Orienteering Participant Code of Conduct.\nCourses close at 14:30\n\nA full risk assessment has been prepared and will be available upon request at Download/Enquiries. British Orienteering 3rd Party insurance does not cover any non-member of a British Orienteering affiliated orienteering club at this event if that person has taken part in three or more British Orienteering registered events. \nTiming and control punching: SportIdent (SI) Punching will be used throughout with SIAC enabled for all the controls in the “terrain”. The start control WILL NOT be SIAC enabled and all competitors will need to “dib” at the start. The finish control will be SIAC enabled (i.e. it will be in “fly-by” mode). Most controls will be attached to “street furniture” of some sort; others including the finish will be on standard aluminium stakes. Should a control fail then use the attached pin punch on the map and explain at Download. If a SIAC “dibber” battery fails then “dib” at all controls. \nStarts: One start for all courses. Start times have been selected by competitors\, and are from 10.30 to 12.30. It is a punching start. If you are late for your selected start\, you will be allowed to start when there is a free start time for your course. \nStart procedure: \n\nBefore call-up: SIAC Battery test unit and clear stations. Course 7 maps will be available to course 7 competitors\nCall up -4 minutes (1st box): Check Station. SIAC users are reminded that the Check Station enables the contactless operation of their dibbers.\n-3 minutes (2nd box): Control descriptions and SIAC “working test” box. If your SIAC does not work on this box then go back (quickly!) to clear\, check and test again.\n-2 minutes (3rd box): Blank maps\, appropriate for each course/paper size as listed under course details.\nThe start line is at the front of the 4th and final box (-1 minute). All competitors need to “dib” at the Start control and then collect the map from under the course box.\n\nFinish: “Fly-by” finish for SIAC users otherwise a punching finish. The finish is 30 metres from Download/Enquiries. Please make your way to Download as soon as you have finished and do not go home unless you have downloaded\, even if you had to retire from the course. If you are involved in any incidents involving damage\, injury or a dispute with a member of the public\, please let us know when you report to download. Courses close 14.30\, after which controls will be collected. \nResults: Provisional results at https://www.sportident.co.uk/results/MV/2026/20260830ReigateUrban/ live during the event; this link will also be on your splits printout via a QR code. Final results will be published asap after the event at www.mvoc.org. The planner would appreciate routes logged on Route Gadget when it’s available as he would like to know which route choices worked and if everybody went the same way on any. \nAny last minute changes will be circulated to competitors by email via racesignup. \nConduct: Please remember that you are a guest in this town. For many of the people you will encounter\, it is home\, and they are not the ones who invited you. Go carefully around blind corners\, and don’t demand to be given priority in narrow alleys and crowded streets. And above all\, cross roads safely\, and that means without alarming drivers as well not being hit by their vehicles! \nSome of the courses pass through a memorial garden and/or a cemetery. Please be particularly respectful in the vicinity of anyone mourning a loved one. \nThis is not the British Championship! Your first priority should be not to upset anyone\, winning the race is secondary. \nRefreshments: Next to the Finish is the Priory Park café (food\, drinks\, card payment possible) together with toilets at the rear. There are several options for refreshments in Reigate. No water will be provided at the finish\, however there will be a monitored (loosely) designated water drop close to the finish that Courses 1 through 4 and 6 pass close to at about half-way though the courses if competitors wish to leave mid-race refreshments (but there will be NO time-out at this point). Please ensure you collect your bottle afterwards\, or dispose of it properly – no littering! \nRoads Courses 1-5: Competitors on the adult courses\, 1-5\, are expected to use roads safely. Cross with care\, and without alarming drivers. If running along a busy road\, use the pavements\, not the roadway. There are some sections of major road which have a pavement on one side only. To assist your route choice\, the side of the road with no pavement is marked out-of-bounds. \nThere is also a section of narrow minor road squeezed between walls with no safe space for pedestrians. This is marked out-of-bounds\, but is a parallel path behind the wall to the west. \nRoads Course 6: Course 6 competitors must stay off the busy roads\, but will need to cross the busy High Street twice at pedestrian operated traffic lights. There are controls each side of the crossing\, remember to punch them both each time. No need to rush across\, the time taken between these two controls will be excluded from your competition time (up to a maximum of two minutes; you won’t need that long).\n \nCourse 6 competitors may\, indeed will need to\, run along the pavement of the High Street\, it’s only the roadway which is out-of-bounds. They will also need to cross two car park access roads; these are small car parks and the roads won’t be busy\, but will still need to be careful. \nRoads Course 7: Course 7 is completely traffic-free. \nDeep water: Course 7 passes close to a lake. Competitors should use a path around the edge rather than try to go straight through the water 😉 \nUnderfoot: The adult courses\, 1-5\, are around 80-85% hard surfaces: tarmac\, concrete\, paving stones\, occasional steps and even a short section of cobbles. The rest is mostly mown grass\, plus a small proportion of unsurfaced path\, and course 1 even has a short section of “white” forest.\nCourse 6 is around 40% hard surface\, 25% mown grass\, 20% unsurfaced path and 15% “white” forest.\nCourse 7 is 70% on paths\, almost all of them unsurfaced\, and 30% mown grass. \nThe usual hard-surface trip hazards are present: kerbs obviously\, but also misaligned paving stones\, raised ironworks\, and anything pushed up by tree roots underneath. The unsurfaced paths are rich in tree-roots. The “white” forest is delightfully runnable\, but autumn has come early this year\, and the forest floor is covered by leaves; dry leaves which have no adherence to the sloping ground underneath are surprisingly slippery\, and so grippy shoes are essential for Course 6. \nWhite forest on Course 6. Shorts or leggings? Your call! \nClothing: Full body cover is not obligatory\, indeed the planner recommends shorts for courses 1-5 & 7. The “white” forest on course 6 has fallen sticks as well as leaves\, and there are some patches of hostile vegetation\, although these are easily avoided. Some might prefer some leg protection on course 6\, although the planner has been all around course 6 in shorts with no problems. Dress appropriately for the weather conditions on the day. Conventional road-running footwear is recommended; studs are inappropriate. All runners are advised to wear a bright coloured top for safety. \nVegetation: There are some places where there is a theoretical option of running through vegetation which is mapped as green or has undergrowth stripes. Don’t even think about it! The path option is always quicker\, and you won’t get lacerated. \nIf you have this leg\, find a path route! \nEvent officials: Planner: Ian Ditchfield MV\, Organiser: Mike Elliot MV (mapping@mvoc.org)\, Controller: Mike Murray SLOW\, Mapper: Mike Elliot MV mapping@mvoc.org) with updates by Ian Roberts\, MV \nAcknowledgements: Reigate & Banstead Borough Council and Reigate St Mary’s school for land access/ control siting. \nComplaints and protests: If you have a complaint about your course\, or any other aspect of the event\, please come and discuss it initially with the event officials (Organiser and/or Planner) at download/enquiries. We will involve the Controller if necessary if the issue is related to the fairness of the course. We will endeavour to resolve all issues on the day. Courses in urban areas have in the past been subject to vandalism / removal of controls and we ask you to be alert to this possibility. A jury will be assembled for this level B event. If you are a controller qualified to at least level B please make yourself known to the organiser. \nHave a great day. Go safely\, and enjoy your run.

SUMMARY:CompassSport Final at Pippingford Park
DESCRIPTION:Preliminary Details\nThe 2026 CompassSport Cup and Trophy Finals will be held at Pippingford Park\, which was previously used for the CSC Final in 2019\, the British Night Championships in 2014 and the Long Distance day of the JK in 2008. \nThis is a closed event for those clubs who have qualified for the finals. \nAll event facilities including car parking and the courses will be within the Pippingford Park Manor Estate\, Nutley\, Uckfield\, TN22 3HW. \nWe would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks to Richard Morriss for use of the area and all his support in the lead up to the event. \nWarm up event\nOn Saturday 17th October\, the day before the CompassSport final\, DFOK are holding a Middle Distance event on South Ashdown. This area is adjacent to Pippingford Park so why not make it a weekend of orienteering? \nTerrain\nPippingford Park is set across two undulating valleys featuring streams\, lakes and marshes. The terrain is diverse and includes a variety of woodland\, grassland and an extensive area of heather. \nThe courses visit the best areas\, which are runnable and will reward direct navigation across the terrain. Between these areas some path running will be required. Areas of dense bracken have been avoided and small patches of bracken will be easily circumnavigated. Parts of the longer courses (1\, 2\, 3 and 4) will cross some of the more physically challenging terrain including heather\, marshes and tussocks. \nMap\nThere will be a new map for this event by Mike Elliot based on a Lidar plot\, completed Summer 2026 to show the up to date vegetation. You can view the map from the 2019 CompassSport Final on Routegadget. \nCourses\nCompetition courses will be as per the CompassSport competition rules for 2026 which can be found here. Under these rules\, course 1 is 9% longer than a normal Short Brown and courses 9M/9W are 30% longer than a normal Light Green. Note the inclusion of M18- in courses 2 and 9M\, and W18- in courses 5 and 9W. This is to provide a progression from junior to senior classes for those ready to compete at TD5 but not on the respective open courses\, whilst still enabling others to compete at appropriate levels. \nIn addition to the competition courses\, there will be two non-competitive courses: Yellow and Light Green. There will also be a free string course adjacent to Assembly. \nProvisional course details are below and will be confirmed in the Final Details. \n\n\n\n\n	CourseAge categoryColour standardLengthClimbControls\n\n\n\n\n	1OpenShort Brown +9%8.7 km310 m21\n\n\n	2M18- M45+Blue6.4 km240 m19\n\n\n	3Women OpenBlue6.5 km230 m19\n\n\n	4M55+Short Blue5.0 km200m15\n\n\n	5W18- W45+Green4.6 km160 m12\n\n\n	6M65+Green4.5 km165 m12\n\n\n	7M75+ W60+Short Green3.6 km140 m10\n\n\n	8M80+ W70+Very Short Green3.3 km115 m10\n\n\n	9MM18-Light Green +30%4.4 km160 m13\n\n\n	9WW18-Light Green +30%4.4 km160 m13\n\n\n	10MM14-Orange2.9 km115 m13\n\n\n	10WW14-Orange2.9 km115 m13\n\n\n	N/CAnyLight Green3.4 km140 m11\n\n\n	N/CAnyYellow2.3 km65 m11\n\n\n\n\nFacilities\nToilets\, drinking water\, professional first aid cover\, two caterers offering a range of fare and CompassPoint to fulfil all your O kit needs. \nThere is ample car parking adjacent to the Assembly Area and hard standing for coaches a short walk away. \nPrizegiving\nWe will aim to hold prizegiving by 2.30pm as there are lots of prizes to award courtesy of CompassSport! \nAs well as the trophies and a bottle of celebratory champagne for each of the Cup and Trophy winning teams there will be mementoes in the shape of drinks mats for all the scorers in the top three teams in each competition and tubs of sweets to share around with all team members. Thanks for all these go to Nick Barrable. \nThere will also be a ‘Golden String’ award for the fastest U10 non-CSC finisher on the string course and a ‘Golden Boot’ trophy for the fastest male and female to complete the run in from the last control. \nOur thanks also to CompassPoint who are providing vouchers as prizes for each of the course winners. \nSafety\nA comprehensive risk assessment has been carried out by the organiser\, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event. \nIf you have pre-existing health issues that you feel the organiser should know about please fill in the British Orienteering Medical form which can be accessed here. \nTicks and Lyme Disease\nTicks are common in the area.
