SUMMARY:2024 Summer Series event 3: Epsom Common/Wells
DESCRIPTION:A rare opportunity to orienteer around ancient Epsom Common and the historic\nWells estate\, based at The Jolly Coopers\, Epsom\, a pub with its own brewery. \n \nEntry: Racesignup.co.uk. £3 seniors (£5 if not British Orienteering members)\, £2 juniors (£3 if not BOF members)\, or £4 for newcomer pairs/groups/families \nCourses: \n\n\nFor the experienced: 1-hour score format (map scale 1:7500).“Score” means there is no set course. Your map will show several controls\, you choose which and how many to visit. You get points for each control you do visit and lose points if you take more than an hour.\nVariable points per control (27 controls available)\nPenalty if over 60 minutes: 30 points per minute or part minute\nHighest net points score wins (if tied\, winner is in least time)\n\n\nSuitable for beginners/newcomers a simpler ~3.8km linear course\n9 controls\, ~30m climb (1:5000 scale map)\nA course with control points to be visited in a set order. Your map shows the control\nlocations and the order. Fastest time to complete the course wins\n\nAssembly and start location: the Jolly Coopers pub\, 84 Wheelers Lane\, Epsom\, KT18 7SD. DESCRIPTION:We will be providing courses for newcomers to try orienteering and there will be volunteers to help learn how to use an orienteering map to navigate around a course. \nFor improvers there will be an opportunity to practice visualizing control sites\, understanding ‘control descriptions’ and going to exactly the correct part of the feature. \nPlease make sure that you come wearing shoes suitable for running off-road\, full leg cover (NOT SHORTS!) and a compass and ‘dibber’ if you have them – they will be available to borrow if required. Bring your own lunch and plenty to drink.
