SUMMARY:CompassSport Final at Pippingford Park
DESCRIPTION:Preliminary Details\nThe 2026 CompassSport Cup and Trophy Finals will be held at Pippingford Park\, which was previously used for the CSC Final in 2019\, the British Night Championships in 2014 and the Long Distance day of the JK in 2008. \nThis is a closed event for those clubs who have qualified for the finals. \nAll event facilities including car parking and the courses will be within the Pippingford Park Manor Estate\, Nutley\, Uckfield\, TN22 3HW. \nWe would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks to Richard Morriss for use of the area and all his support in the lead up to the event. \nWarm up event\nOn Saturday 17th October\, the day before the CompassSport final\, DFOK are holding a Middle Distance event on South Ashdown. This area is adjacent to Pippingford Park so why not make it a weekend of orienteering? \nTerrain\nPippingford Park is set across two undulating valleys featuring streams\, lakes and marshes. The terrain is diverse and includes a variety of woodland\, grassland and an extensive area of heather. \nThe courses visit the best areas\, which are runnable and will reward direct navigation across the terrain. Between these areas some path running will be required. Areas of dense bracken have been avoided and small patches of bracken will be easily circumnavigated. Parts of the longer courses (1\, 2\, 3 and 4) will cross some of the more physically challenging terrain including heather\, marshes and tussocks. \nMap\nThere will be a new map for this event by Mike Elliot based on a Lidar plot\, completed Summer 2026 to show the up to date vegetation. You can view the map from the 2019 CompassSport Final on Routegadget. \nCourses\nCompetition courses will be as per the CompassSport competition rules for 2026 which can be found here. Under these rules\, course 1 is 9% longer than a normal Short Brown and courses 9M/9W are 30% longer than a normal Light Green. Note the inclusion of M18- in courses 2 and 9M\, and W18- in courses 5 and 9W. This is to provide a progression from junior to senior classes for those ready to compete at TD5 but not on the respective open courses\, whilst still enabling others to compete at appropriate levels. \nIn addition to the competition courses\, there will be two non-competitive courses: Yellow and Light Green. Thanks for all these go to Nick Barrable. \nThere will also be a ‘Golden String’ award for the fastest U10 non-CSC finisher on the string course and a ‘Golden Boot’ trophy for the fastest male and female to complete the run in from the last control. \nOur thanks also to CompassPoint who are providing vouchers as prizes for each of the course winners. \nSafety\nA comprehensive risk assessment has been carried out by the organiser\, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event. \nIf you have pre-existing health issues that you feel the organiser should know about please fill in the British Orienteering Medical form which can be accessed here. \nTicks and Lyme Disease\nTicks are common in the area.
