DESCRIPTION:Morden Hall Park comprises 50 ha of former deer park spanning the River Wandle. This historic estate is owned and managed by the National Trust.\n \nFormer deer park with historic stables\, mill & other buildings. Bisected by many channels of the River Wandle (which must be crossed only at bridges). Small areas of woodland. Full leg cover advised – you will encounter nettles & long grass. \nShort (c 2.5k) or Long (c 4.2k) courses are available. NB Actual running distances will be further. \n  \nEntry Fees\nSenior: £5.00/£7.00\nSenior Chip hire: £1.00\nJunior/Student: £3.00/£3.00\nJunior/Student Chip hire: £1.00 \nJuniors are under 21 on 31st December. \nEntry fees are £5 for members of British orienteering and £7 for non-members. Students and U21s £3 . You will need an SI card to record your time. SUMMARY:MV Summer Series evening at Epsom
DESCRIPTION:1st event in our 4-part summer series (subsequent events 26 June Nonsuch Park\, 10 July Horton Country Park\, 29 July Ashtead). App-based (MapRun) low-key evening orienteering event suitable for newcomers\, improvers and more experienced orienteers.\nEntry: racesignup.co.uk. £3.50 seniors (£5.50 if not British Orienteering members)\, £2 juniors (£3 if not BOF members)\, or £4 for pairs/groups/families \nMeeting point and Après-O: Registration in the beer garden of  The Blenheim\, 7 Manor Green Rd\, Epsom KT19 8RA- map. You will be able to leave your bags during your run. We encourage you to make use of the pub’s food and refreshments for a social after\, as they are providing us space for free. \nGetting there: The pub is ~15-minute walk from Epsom railway station. There is some free parking on nearby streets. \nCourses: \n1: for the experienced: 1-hour score\, snooker format: \n\nup to 15x: (“reds”\, then optional colour*)\nOnce all 15 reds have been visited; then the colours* in ascending order of value; yellow\, green\, brown\, blue\, pink and black.\n\nAdditional notes/explanation: \n\nEach red may only be visited once\, subsequent visits will not be counted.\nColours* may be visited multiple times\nVisiting two consecutive colours* before all 15 reds have been collected is a foul and will result in the loss of four points\nOnce all 15 reds have been visited\, visiting the colours in the incorrect order is a foul and will result in the loss of four points per infraction.\nScoring:\n\nRed – 1 point\nColours* – Yellow = 2\, Green = 3\, Brown = 4\, Blue = 5\, Pink = 6\, Black = 7\n\n\nYou lose points if you take more than an hour (penalty rate to be confirmed).\n\n*”Colour” means one of yellow\, green\, brown\, blue\, pink or black (except on the final red\, where yellow cannot be chosen) \nExample of a correct (no foul) sequence: red\, blue\, red\, yellow\, red\, green\, red\, green\, red\, black\, red\, yellow\, red\, green\, red\, brown\, red\, blue then back to the finish. App-based (MapRun) low-key evening orienteering event suitable for newcomers\, improvers and more experienced orienteers.\n \nEntry: Racesignup.co.uk. £3.50 seniors (£5.50 if not British Orienteering members)\, £2 juniors (£3 if not BOF members)\, or £4 for pairs/groups/families \n Meeting point and Après-O: Registration will take place at the outdoor area of the Harrow Inn Cheam\, High Street\, Cheam\, SM3 8RL – map\, where you can leave your bags during your run\, and enjoy good food and drink after your run. \nGetting there: The pub offers limited parking at the rear.  Kingsway Road carpark (3min walk) offers an evening tariff of £1.50 between 18:30 and 20:00 – map.  Closest railway station is Cheam\, follow Station Way from north exit (5min walk). \nCourses: For the experienced: 60-minute score course using Waikato scoring rules.  For beginners/newcomers a simpler ~3km linear course. “Score” means there is no set course.  Your map will show several controls\, and you choose which and how many to visit. Points are gained for visiting controls and points are lost for taking more than one hour. “Waikato” scoring means some controls are only available within certain timeframe. \nStarts: from 18:30 to 19:30. Courses close 20:30. Start 3-minute walk from the registration point. Walk to Start point involves crossing a busy crossroads.  Junior participants (under-16) must be accompanied by an adult when crossing.  All participants should use the formal crossing points. \nFormat: exclusively on the MapRun app – the app ‘beeps’ when you visit a control site. No physical controls located in the park and dibbers will not be used. This means using a smartphone with the MapRun app (latest is version 7) or load the MapRunG app onto a compatible Garmin watch. Details of how orienteering works with this app are here. You will download the course to the app ideally before you arrive: click on ‘Select Event’ and follow the menu path UK > Mole Valley > 2025 Summer Series. The course will not be visible on your phone until you receive the PIN number at the start. You upload your result when you finish.
