SUMMARY:MV/GO Training Activity at Reigate Priory Park
DESCRIPTION:Guildford Orienteers (GO) and Mole Valley (MV) Orienteering Club have teamed up to offer training and coaching for novice and less experienced orienteers. Our joint GO/MV training activities are small\, friendly events aimed at beginners and at orienteers who want to improve their skills. \nThe next activity is on Saturday 5 October from 12pm to 2pm in Reigate Priory Park. \nMeeting point\nMeeting point is by the Armada beacon (pictured in above image) – at what3words: moons.papers.solve ( https://w3w.co/moons.papers.solve) \nActivities:\nThere will be two courses suitable for newcomers/beginners and help from volunteers available. \nFor improvers there will be activities to work on ‘simplification’. There is a lot to look at on an orienteering map. Simplification helps you to focus on the key detail to save time! \nTo bring:\nBring your own food and drink (or nearby cafe available) and wear clothes suitable for the outdoors including full leg cover. Shoes with some grip are advised. We are likely to go ahead whatever the weather. \nTo enter:\nPlease sign up via racesignup\, https://racesignup.co.uk/ by Wednesday 2nd October\, so we know how many maps to print. Let us know your level of experience – Beginner or Improver. \nAttendance is free to members of GO and MV. For anyone not lucky enough to be a member of either of our clubs we ask for £4 towards the cost of maps and land permission. \nIf you are coming as a bystander and/or to watch over your young charges and you are willing to help\, please register as a Helper (for free). \nEntries can be registered (and amended) until midday on the day of the activity. Withdrawals online until 8pm the night before. \nUseful introduction to orienteering terms\nThere is a useful jargon-buster web page for beginners to orienteering on the MV website at https://mvoc.org/jargon-buster/ \nPhoto credit: Armada Beacon\, Priory Park by Ian Capper

SUMMARY:Come and try orienteering at Horton Country Park
DESCRIPTION:Come and try out orienteering at Horton Country Park for free!\nSuitable for newcomers and families. No experience necessary! You can walk or run. \nWe will have free maps of the permanent orienteering course available\, with four courses to choose from. \nCome find us near the BBQ field which is adjacent to the car park (what3words: ///bunks.equal.fries). Google maps link for the car park entrance from Horton Lane\, Epsom: https://maps.app.goo.gl/EbMck8F7h6b6URUu6 \nWhat to bring\nIf you have a compass\, that will be handy\, else we can lend you one. If you bring a smartphone you can also follow the course on a phone\, though we will provide printed maps. Some routes may take you through long grass\, for which some people prefer leg cover. \nWhat courses are at Horton?\nAs well as the start post\, there are 24 controls around the Park. We have suggested four courses that use a selection of the controls to make courses varying in length and difficulty: \n\na beginner’s course\,\nshort and long intermediate courses\,\nand a longer expert course.\n\nThe controls are shown on the map with numbered purple circles. To do the course\, visit the controls in the order shown on the map. You do not need to follow the purple line; you choose a route that suits you. \nOn the ground there are wooden posts with red and white markings. The posts have unique numbers and letters\, as shown for control 23 in the photo below. At each control you can check that it is the one you are seeking by looking for the number on the post. \n  \n \n  \nThe courses are also on an app\nThe courses are also available on the MapRun app. To find the courses in the app\, either (if you’re in the Park) select “Events Near Me” or choose “Select Event” and navigate through the folders: UK –> Mole Valley –> Permanent Orienteering Courses –> Horton Country Park
