SUMMARY:Leatherhead Street-O
DESCRIPTION:This is the 7th event of a series of 8 winter evening Street Orienteering events MVOC are organising on a monthly basis from September to April. Each event will be a 1-hour or 40 minute score event and a league table will be compiled from the results of each event as they proceed. The best 5 results from the 8 events will determine the final league positions. There will be a trophy for the first male competitor and The Lois Exell trophy will be presented to the first female competitor at or soon after the final event. \nTo take part in this event: Pre-enter at www.racesignup.co.uk Please\, if possible\, use a smartphone and ensure you have latest version of MapRun installed and the course is downloaded to your phone before you arrive. Details of how to obtain a copy of the app and how it works can be found here \nDownload the course onto the app by clicking on ‘Select Event\, and following the menu path UK > Mole Valley > StreetO 24/25 Winter Series. The course will not be visible on your phone until you receive the PIN number at Registration on the night. There are no written answers required with MapRun and your result will be automatically downloaded when you finish. The full procedure will be explained at Registration. You can also use a Garmin watch with the MapRunG app installed and the course loaded. \nIf you are really unable to use MapRun\, you are still welcome to take part by completing the control sheet with pen or pencil but this is a much slower method. With this approach\, timing will be by SI Start/Finish units – timing device supplied if you do not have your own. The procedure will again be explained at Registration. \nRegistration/ Start location: The Penny Black pub\, 5 North St\, Leatherhead KT22 7AG \nParking: The Penny Black has no car park so if you are driving\, the nearest car park is located in Station Road – KT22 7AG. Alternative car parks are in Bridge Street (this is very small and only has room for 20 or so cars) KT22 8BW or on Randalls Road – KT22 7SJ. All car parks are free from 6pm. Do not park in North Street or in the Lidl supermarket car park\, you will get a parking ticket. \nPublic transport: Leatherhead train station is a 10 minute walk away and the 479 and 465 busses both stop in North Street opposite the pub. \nMap: 1;10\,000 scale and printed on waterproof paper. \nEquipment required:  Smartphone if possible\, with MapRun installed and course downloaded in advance (see above) otherwise pen or pencil; watch or timepiece; torch or head torch; whistle in case of an emergency/injury. High visibility clothing. \nEntry Fee: £3.50 to all BOF members\, £5.50 to non-BOF members. Juniors under 16 are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult and the pairing will be charged the appropriate adult fee (above). Free to Mole Valley OC members and ‘Supporters”. \nStarts: Starts between 6.30pm and 7.30pm (no need to book an exact start time). \nScore Event: “Score” just means that there is no set course. Your map will show a number of controls\, but you don’t have to visit them all. You get points for each control you do visit and lose points if you take more than an hour. Information about how to keep yourself and your children safe at an event can be found here. \nWhistles: Carrying a whistle is strongly recommended at all our events and may be made compulsory by the organiser depending on identified risks and conditions. \nSIACs: Note that in contactless mode no record of a SIAC “punch” is held in the control box. By using contactless punching\, competitors are accepting the resulting risk that we may take longer to find them if they are lost or injured. \nCovid Prevention: Please adhere to the British Orienteering Code of Conduct and take care to allow others to maintain social distance if they wish. \nTicks: Please be aware that ticks are common across many of the areas we run in and can carry infections such as Lyme Disease and Tick-Borne Encephalitis. This is why the rules of orienteering say that you MUST wear full leg and abdomen cover in the forest. Full arm cover is also recommended. Please check for ticks after running and seek medical advice if you develop flu like symptoms or a spreading circular rash after being bitten. SUMMARY:MV/GO Training Activity at White Downs
DESCRIPTION:This is part of our series of GoMole training events. They are relaxed\, friendly events perfect for newcomers\, including families and those looking to improve their orienteering skills. They are free to members of Mole Valley and Guildford orienteering clubs and £4 for non-members. \nIf you would like to come to this event please sign-up on the following web page: https://racesignup.co.uk/go-mv-training-activity-march-2025 \nThere will be two courses designed for newcomers\, with volunteers able to accompany them if desired. \nThere will also be three improver courses  – this time these will be focussed on improving your ‘control flow’. We will be following up on our IOF symbol learning from the last training by practicing reading control descriptions while moving so please bring a descriptions holder if you have one. There will also be  ‘map memory’ and ‘planning ahead’ courses. \nMeet at the far end of the White Down Car Park for a 12 noon start (W3W of car park entrance = poem.update.loudly\,  meeting point and start/finish is at the far end of the car park at  W3W: focus.candle.went).  Please wear warm\, comfortable clothing\, with full leg cover (no shorts!) and shoes with grip. Bring water and any snacks/lunch you need and a compass if you have one (we can lend you one if not).
