SUMMARY:MV/GO Training Activity at Reigate Priory Park
DESCRIPTION:Guildford Orienteers (GO) and Mole Valley (MV) Orienteering Club have teamed up to offer training and coaching for novice and less experienced orienteers. Our joint GO/MV training activities are small\, friendly events aimed at beginners and at orienteers who want to improve their skills. \nThe next activity is on Saturday 5 October from 12pm to 2pm in Reigate Priory Park. \nMeeting point\nMeeting point is by the Armada beacon (pictured in above image) – at what3words: moons.papers.solve ( https://w3w.co/moons.papers.solve) \nActivities:\nThere will be two courses suitable for newcomers/beginners and help from volunteers available. \nFor improvers there will be activities to work on ‘simplification’. There is a lot to look at on an orienteering map. Simplification helps you to focus on the key detail to save time! \nTo bring:\nBring your own food and drink (or nearby cafe available) and wear clothes suitable for the outdoors including full leg cover. Shoes with some grip are advised. We are likely to go ahead whatever the weather. \nTo enter:\nPlease sign up via racesignup\, https://racesignup.co.uk/ by Wednesday 2nd October\, so we know how many maps to print. Let us know your level of experience – Beginner or Improver. \nAttendance is free to members of GO and MV. For anyone not lucky enough to be a member of either of our clubs we ask for £4 towards the cost of maps and land permission. \nIf you are coming as a bystander and/or to watch over your young charges and you are willing to help\, please register as a Helper (for free). \nEntries can be registered (and amended) until midday on the day of the activity. SUMMARY:Ewell - Winter Street O
DESCRIPTION:This is the 2nd event of a series of 8 winter evening Street Orienteering events MVOC are organising on a monthly basis from September to April. Each event will be a 1-hour or 40 minute score event and a league table will be compiled from the results of each event as they proceed. The best 5 results from the 8 events will determine the final league positions. There will be a trophy for the first male competitor and The Lois Exell trophy will be presented to the first female competitor at or soon after the final event. \nTo take part in this event: Pre-enter at www.racesignup.co.uk Please\, if possible\, use a smartphone and ensure you have latest version of MapRun installed and the course is downloaded to your phone before you arrive. Details of how to obtain a copy of the app and how it works can be found here \nDownload the course onto the app by clicking on ‘Select Event\, and following the menu path UK > Mole Valley > StreetO 24/25 Winter Series. The course will not be visible on your phone until you receive the PIN number at Registration on the night. There are no written answers required with MapRun and your result will be automatically downloaded when you finish. The full procedure will be explained at Registration. You can also use a Garmin watch with the MapRunG app installed and the course loaded. \nIf you are really unable to use MapRun\, you are still welcome to take part by completing the control sheet with pen or pencil but this is a much slower method. With this approach\, timing will be by SI Start/Finish units – timing device supplied if you do not have your own. The procedure will again be explained at Registration. \nRegistration/ Start location: The Spring Tavern\, 1 London Rd\, Ewell\, KT17 2AY \nParking: Parking on Kingston Rd free for non-residents after 18:30. \nPublic transport: Ewell West station 750m\, Ewell East station 1.2km\, 406 and 293 bus. \nMap: 1;10\,000 scale and printed on waterproof paper. \nEquipment required:  Smartphone if possible\, with MapRun installed and course downloaded in advance (see above) otherwise pen or pencil; watch or timepiece; torch or head torch; whistle in case of an emergency/injury. High visibility clothing. \nEntry Fee: £3.50 to all BOF members\, £5.50 to non-BOF members. Juniors under 16 are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult and the pairing will be charged the appropriate adult fee (above). Free to Mole Valley OC members and ‘Supporters”. \nStarts: Starts between 6.30pm and 7.30pm (no need to book an exact start time). \nScore Event: “Score” just means that there is no set course. Your map will show a number of controls\, but you don’t have to visit them all. You get points for each control you do visit and lose points if you take more than an hour. This year we are also offering a 40 minute score (same controls) where the net score is multiplied by 150% for inclusion in the results. \nLast minute changes: Please visit the MV website before travelling to check for last minute changes mvoc.org \nResults: provisional live on the app and final version on the club website as soon as possible. \nThis event is planned and organised by John Pickup – if you have any questions contact bursar@mvoc.org \nYou are responsible for your own safety and you take part in this event at your own risk.
