Organiser’s Comments - Tim Scarbrough:-
30 degree sunshine greeted approximately 170 Orienteers in Epsom for the next instalment of the UK and South of England urban leagues. We were very fortunate to have Atkins let us use their facilities and car park - many thanks indeed - which gave us a great town centre location. As the weather forecast close to the event ramped up in temperature, the runners were glad for a drinks control in one of the parks. Thank you to all those who volunteered to help on the day as these events would be impossible without it. Thanks to Epsom and Ewell Council for granting permission to set up a start in Rosebery park.
Controller’s Comments - Gordon Parker (SLOW):-
I hope you all enjoyed the excellent weather and didn’t suffer too much from the heat. Well done to Tim for standing in relatively late in the day as organiser and ensuring the Mole Valley team operated effectively. Being a busy market town there were always going to be challenges getting competitors around the town centre given traffic levels – Mike achieved this well and hopefully you were not too impacted by the traffic. Mole Valley also lost access to an area to the south west a week prior to the event which reduced the effectiveness of one or two legs on the longer courses – always a risk in urban orienteering. Apologies to the few competitors on course 5 who encountered a locked gate between controls 10 and 11. In the interests of fairness to those impacted by this I have recommended that leg 10 to 11 is excluded from the final results. Thank you all for participating
