My thanks to Rob, Nick and Jane for control collecting, and Mark for doing most of the work.
I wanted the controls in a fairly confined area so that they could all be collected quickly and we could get down the pub. A good all-controls route S-103-99-109-108-98-101-96-95-100-93-92-90-91-94-106-97-104-105-107-102-F worked out at 4.8km straight-line, or considerably less than 60 minutes for some.
I could have added length by using two sets, 90’s and 100’s, but it’s boring to have two similar laps. I hoped the “dumbbell” format would give a little more challenge and variety. I put in some short dumbbells so that everybody could do one if they chose, and tried to avoid path runs from one side of the map to the other. A good route for getting the maximum 30 points would have been S-98-108-109-99-103-93-100-90-91-101-95-105-104-94-106-96-92-102-97-107-F, and at 7.4km might just have been achieved in the hour if Barrable junior had turned up.
Of course, it’s hard to spot a good route, even with a minute to think about it. I hope the little tag on each control pointing towards the “dumbbell partner” helped.
