SUTTON SCHOOLS
OAKS PARK
9 JUNE 2006

A big Thank You to everyone who came along to the Sutton Schools event in Oaks Park on 9th June. MVOC enjoyed putting this event on for you, and we hope you enjoyed taking part.

Jackie Olive, who organised the event says:

"Seventy children representing seven Sutton Primary Schools enjoyed a fun introduction to orienteering in the sunshine on 9 June, when the new Oaks Park map was used for the first time.

Teams from Westbourne and Avenue Primary schools clocked up the fastest times around two sprint courses and congratulations to Westbourne who, for the second year running(!) won the schools competition.

However Dorchester and Barrow Hedges schools proved that speed is not the whole story in the sport of Orienteering: their teams were the most accurate and only missed one control over the two courses which won them second and third places in the schools competition. Well done to all the teams who took part.

Many thanks are due to Richard Oxlade and Mick Bradshaw from Sutton LEA who co-ordinated the event, to the teachers who selected and brought the children, to the four students from St Philoemena's College who acted as marshals around the park and to the seven Moles who coached the children and ran the event.

Everyone involved had a great day and we look forward to future collaboration between MVOC and Sutton. Look out for news of the publication of the new Oaks Park Permanent 'O' course and give it a try yourself."
